Destination :: The Indian Ocean - Boat Trips

My final post on the Maldives is about the two boat trips we took.  The first trip we took one evening to try to see some dolphins.  We had a lovely cruise around the atoll and saw lots of flying fish, but no dolphins.
We didn't really mind not seeing them as the trip itself was fun and the crew tried really hard to spot the dolphins.

We enjoyed the beautiful sunset from the top of the boat.

The next boat trip we took was to another reef on the atoll and en route we saw dolphins!  First we spotted them in the distance, with one jumping right out of the water and the next moment they were playing in the bow wave of the boat!

We arrived at the reef and jumped in and the first creature we saw was a 4ft black tip reef shark!  Luckily these sharks aren't dangerous.

The water was a lot deeper here, which meant we had a greater chance of achieving our goal ...
... to see turtles!
This Green Turtle was large!

I believe that this one is a Hawksbill Turtle.

All too soon it was time to say goodbye to this very special part of the world, but we have brought home some truly magical memories of our week there.
